Therefore, we'll have availability as long as you make your reservation at least one day in advance
Guide
The guide is like the conductor of an orchestra; they are truly passionate about the Maya civilization and are responsible for bringing the archaeological site to life through your imagination. Through their stories, you will discover what this city was like in its days of splendor. They will explain the acoustics of the pyramid, the secrets of the ball game, and answer all your questions from deep history to where to find the restrooms at every stop
"Hi again! I'm Maria. Once the tour begins, my role is essential in ensuring your experience is perfect from start to finish:"
Cultural Storytelling: I don't just recite dates; I 'bring the stones to life' by explaining the acoustics, astronomy, and the daily lives of my Mayan ancestors
Smart Logistics: I know exactly when the cenotes are less crowded, where to find the best food at the buffet, and how to avoid the most persistent vendors so you can simply enjoy your day
Personalized Attention: I make sure nobody feels like 'just another face in the crowd' on the bus. I’m here to answer everything, from 'where is the nearest restroom?' to 'why did the Maya abandon the city?
Here are the questions I get asked most often
Maria, are there any hidden fees or surprises when I arrive?
That's a great question! Look, I'll tell you straight from the heart, with the honesty of someone who was born and raised here: with us, clear terms make long friends. There is no 'fine print.' What you see on the website is exactly what you get
The total cost to enjoy this day with me is $75 USD per person. To keep everything crystal clear, here is the breakdown:
- $35 USD covers the excursion (my guiding services, air-conditioned transportation, the visit to Valladolid, and the buffet lunch)
- $40 USD is for your entrance fees and archaeological site taxes. I will personally help you manage this at the ticket office so you don't waste any time
What is the only thing NOT included? Just personal expenses: drinks at the restaurant, life jacket or locker rentals at the cenote (which are just a few extra pesos), and tips if you feel we took great care of you
Keep in mind that you only pay once we meet at the shuttle. My word is my bond, and your satisfaction is my priority. I'm looking forward to seeing you no surprises, just a world of history waiting for you!
Maria, it sounds too good to be true... What's the catch with being able to pay on the same day?
Oh, I completely understand! In such a touristy area, you learn to be cautious. But I’ll give it to you straight: the only 'catch' is that we trust your word as much as you trust ours
Why do we do it this way? It’s simple:
- We are direct operators: Since we don't use intermediaries or outside agencies, we don't have to pay upfront commissions. This gives us the freedom to wait and charge you only when we meet face-to-face at the transportation
- We trust in our service: We know that when we arrive at your hotel with a clean vehicle and our team ready to go, you'll be excited to jump in. We don't need to hold onto your money to make sure you show up; we prefer that you come because you are truly convinced
- Your peace of mind is our priority: We know that plans change sometimes kids get sick or flights get delayed. We don't want you to lose your money over something you can't control
The only condition? Well, if you are a group of more than 5 people, we do ask for a small deposit to secure your seats in the van, since we are a small team. But if you're coming with your partner or a small family, my guarantee is your trust. No tricks just a direct deal from locals!
Maria, why does the tour last so long? Am I going to spend the whole day on the bus?
Uff, I totally get it! Twelve hours sounds scary to anyone on vacation, but look, I'll give you the local truth: Chichen Itza isn't just around the corner, and to experience it as it deserves, there are no shortcuts
Let me explain where the time goes, so you can see why every minute is worth it:
- The road is what it is: We are about 200 kilometers from Cancun. That's nearly 3 hours each way. But don't worry, our vans have amazing air conditioning, and I use that time to share Mayan secrets with you that you won't find in any history books.
- The 'Castillo' can't be seen in 15 minutes: Chichen Itza is massive. Between walking to the Pyramid, visiting the Ball Court, and explaining how the calendar worked, we'll spend at least 2 hours there. And I'm a fast walker! But under the Yucatan sun, you have to take it slow so you don't wear yourself out.
- Man does not live by ruins alone: Since you've made the trip all the way here, it would be a sin not to take you for a refreshing dip in a sacred cenote and a taste of authentic cochinita pibil at our buffet. Plus, we stop in Valladolid a beautiful "Magic Town" so you can see the real life of my people.
My advice: Don't look at it as a long tour; look at it as a day-long expedition to one of the 7 Wonders of the World. We leave early to beat the peak heat and we'll have you back just in time for dinner at your hotel
Is the exhaustion worth it? When you're standing in front of the Kukulcan Temple and hear the Quetzal's chirp with every clap, I swear you'll forget all about the clock. I'll be waiting for you here with my sneakers on!
Monday, March 1 to Sunday, March 8, 2026
Due to the cool winter mornings, if you visit the archaeological site early, we recommend bringing a light sweater that you can easily pack in your backpack later
This week is ideal for exploring the ruins: clear skies and mild temperatures provide the perfect conditions to enjoy the site without the intense heat typical of this area
This report is updated weekly as a guide for those planning their visit to the archaeological site, providing an idea of what to expect in the coming days
We are locals, and we specialize in this Wonder of the Modern World
Information and video
Here you can find official information
Here is a video showing what the excursion is all about
Chichen Itza is located 280 kilometers / 174 miles from Cancun, making it a very convenient site to reach; just keep in mind that the transportation takes approximately 2:00 to 2:30 hours. Many people ask us, Is it worth it? The answer is definitely YES
Once you arrive and see the Temple of Kukulcan, that feeling that you cannot quite put into words but at the same time love is what makes you appreciate how much beauty and history Mexico has to offer.
On more than one occasion, we have witnessed people who have dreamed their whole lives of being in this place full of mysticism. But once the initial awe and that "I can't believe I'm here" feeling settle, you continue with the guided tour. This is essential to understanding what you are seeing on-site, as the guide leads you under the sun through the Castle (the main temple), the Ball Court (where the twins played against the gods), the Temple of the Warriors, and more
If you ever decide to spend your vacations in Mexico, we urge everyone to visit Chichen Itza. It will meet and exceed your every expectation, as the tour is complemented by other spectacular locations, such as a stunning cenote, a buffet lunch, and a visit to a colonial city called Valladolid. There, you can see firsthand the modern-day relationship between the indigenous Mayans and people from all over the world. Of course, all of this comes at a FAIR price that will be very hard to say no to
Duration
Being on vacation in Mexico and not visiting Chichen Itza would be like visiting France and not going to see the Eiffel Tower. With our excursion, it can become a reality very easily, as we pick you up from the comfort of your lodging **Restrictions apply**. Round-trip transportation is included with air conditioning
Due to the distance that must be covered since the mayan ruins are not near Riviera Maya the excursion has a total approximate duration of 11-12 hours. But don't let that discourage you; keep in mind that you are visiting one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, on the same level as Machu Picchu, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, and others
Itinerary
Since you have already invested 5-6 hours just traveling, the best thing to do is combine it with some interesting spots like a cenote, a regional meal, and a brief visit to the colonial city of Valladolid
The order may vary without prior notice
- Stop 1 - Cenote
- Stop 2 - Lunch
- Stop 3 - Chichen Itza
- Stop 4 - Brief visit to Valladolid
- Return to your hotel
Pickup is available at most hotels
If you are staying at a hotel in the hotel zone, it's almost certain that we can pick you up right at your hotel door; otherwise, we can arrange a nearby meeting point, usually within walking distance
In Downtown, we have several meeting points, for example:
We offer comfort and convenience leave all the logistics to us. We have the infrastructure and experience to ensure your visit is as pleasant as possible
Drop-off at your hotel
After visiting all these locations, it's time to head back to your hotel. Of course, we will drop you off at the same spot where we picked you up this morning
Guide Tips
We highly recommend bringing cash for drinks at the buffet lunch and for life jacket rentals at the cenote
It is highly recommended to bring enough cash in Mexican Pesos, as foreign currency (USD or Euros) is not accepted at the entrance. If you plan to pay by credit or debit card, please be aware that the archaeological site is in a remote area; this can lead to power outages or unstable bank connections. In the event of any technical issues, cash will be the only accepted payment method
Keep an eye on your card payments! If the system fails or your card doesn't go through on the first try, the general policy at the ticket booth is to require cash in pesos to keep the line moving. Don't risk missing out on the tour due to a lack of cash on hand
- Drinks at the buffet lunch
- Lifevests and Lockers at the Cenote
- Extra admission fee if you bring a professional camera or a tripod
- Souvenirs
- Tips

- Electronic transfer (At least 2 days in advance)

Basically, just let us know as soon as possible if you won't be attending
NO CANCELLATION FEES. For groups of 4 people or fewer, you can pay when the transportation picks you up
For groups of 5 people or more, a deposit is required; the following restrictions apply
- No penalty if cancelled up to 24 hours in advance
- 100% charge in case of a no-show
We understand that things beyond our control can happen such as accidents, personal issues, or health concerns and we are a compassionate company. All we ask is that you let us know as soon as possible to help us avoid the loss of time and resources
Unfortunately, there are certain restrictions due to safety regulations
- Same-day payment is only available for groups of 4 people or fewer. If you make two separate reservations, we cannot guarantee you will be assigned to the same bus
- Must not have circulatory issues, as the drive takes 2–3 hours.
- Punctuality is required regarding the times set by the guide; a delay by one person forces the group to wait, affecting the entire tour schedule for everyone else.
- The archeological site has uneven terrain, tree roots, and gravel; therefore, it is not recommended for wheelchairs.
- You must know how to swim to enter the cenote (Renting a life jacket is mandatory).
- Not recommended for young children (under 2 years old).
- Must be in good physical and emotional health.
- Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
- Must have the ability to walk, even if only for short distances.
- Climbing the ruins is strictly prohibited (for conservation purposes).
- The use of drones or tripods is not permitted within the archaeological site.
1.- Do you pick me up at my hotel lobby?
We pick up at most hotels, as we have an established route. However, if you are staying in a small hotel / Airbnb / apartment, it's very likely that you will have to go to a meeting point which is usually very close to your accommodation
2.- How much total travel time (one-way trip only) should I expect on the bus until we get to the archaeological zone?
Keep in mind that Mayan Ruins are not close. The estimated time is 2 to 2.5 hours each way
Here's a map so you can get a better idea: Check this map
3. Is food included in the price?
Yes, a regional yucatecan buffet-style meal is included! The main choices are:
- Cochinita Pibil (slow-roasted pork)
- Pollo Pibil (slow-roasted chicken)
- Spaghetti
- Rice
- Beans
- Salads
- Fruit
If you're vegetarian, there are a few options, but the meal doesn't specialize in meat-free dishes
If you keep kosher or have an allergy, the best thing to do is bring some of your own food and supplement it with what you can eat from the buffet. Unfortunately, that's still a pretty new thing in Mexico, and we barely have any options like that. Send a message so we can go into detail about it!
Keep in mind that this is a standard buffet meal. If you're staying at a high-end hotel and want a meal with more options, please send a message so we can find an option that matches your expectations
4.- What are the accepted payment methods?
The best way, if there are fewer than 5 people, is to pay in cash when the transportation picks you up. If there are more than 5 people, you need to pay a deposit to guarantee your attendance. You can also pay through the website or via a payment link
5.- Can small children go?
Yes, we have 2 options:
- Kids 3-9 years old get a children's rate and a guaranteed seat
- Children under 3 are considered infants and don't pay, but they don't have a guaranteed seat, as they are expected to ride in their parent's arms
6.- What's the actual total cost of the entrance in 2026?
As of January 2026, the total entrance fee to the archaeological site consists of two separate payments: the federal fee INAH $105 MXN and the state fee CULTUR $571 pesos. For international visitors, the total cost is approximately $676 MXN. Significant discounts are available for Mexican citizens with a valid INE ID. Please note: These prices are updated as of February 2026 and may vary slightly depending on the daily exchange rate

See what our travelers are saying"The place is incredible. The history narrated by a descendant of the Maya, who shares stories about every corner of this wonderful site, is fantastic—along with all the mystery surrounding a place considered one of the New 7 Wonders of the World
You need to have some patience because you'll be walking a lot under the sun and the tour lasts all day. Make sure to bring sunscreen, a drink (since they don't sell anything inside), a hat or cap, sneakers, and comfortable clothing"
"This archaeological masterpiece truly inspires respect for the Mayan culture. It is well worth visiting to learn about this city and its ancient inhabitants—their skills, habits, beliefs, and rituals. I recommend doing some reading beforehand or hiring a certified guide to accompany you (they are available right on-site). You can also purchase beautiful crafts offered by the locals at very affordable prices. While many complain about their persistence, it is important to understand that this is their livelihood"
"We were traveling from Belize and Guatemala, which also have many Mayan archaeological sites; specifically, this site is better reconstructed, but it has something that takes away some of the magic compared to Tikal or Caracol. It might be the massive crowds of tourists or the unbearable number of vendors (authorities should restrict vendors from the archaeological zones and have them sell only in the surrounding areas)
In any case, it is a temple that you shouldn't miss despite the overcrowding (that's what happens when you're one of the New 7 Wonders of the World)"
"It was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived at the archaeological site, I felt transported back in time. The imposing pyramids, majestic temples, and the remains of a civilization so rich in history left me breathless"
The tour included an expert guide who perfectly explained the history and significance of each monument. We toured the Kukulcan Pyramid."
"Our guide during the trip was exceptional. She shared the history of the Maya with such passion, explaining the significance of their constructions and the secrets that this mystical place still holds.
Without a doubt, this has been a unique and unforgettable experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a journey filled with culture, history, and adventure."
Latest Update
Starting March 16th 2016, the entrance to the archaeological site will change. Access will now be through the North Entrance, passing through the CATVI (Visitor Center) and the Great Mayan Handicraft Market, located right next to the new museum
According to Chichen Itza authorities, this new entrance will allow visitors to begin their tour in an organized manner, passing through the Great Mayan Arch and entering from the Sacred Cenote area, which connects directly to the El Castillo esplanade
This change involves adjustments to the tour circuits
While big agencies sell you tours from a desk hundreds of miles away, we are waiting for you at the gate. We are locals, we live in Chichen Itza, and we know the new entrance better than anyone because this is our home
