Yucatecan regional food

Regional Yucatecan food is known for its diversity, unique flavors, and combination of indigenous, spanish, and Caribbean influences. This cuisine is characterized by its fresh ingredients, traditional culinary techniques and the use of native spices and seasonings. Here I present some options of regional Yucatecan food:

  1. Cochinita pibil: It is one of the most recognized dishes in Yucatan. It consists of pork marinated with achiote, sour orange juice and spices, which is slowly cooked in a ground oven called "pib". The result is a tender, juicy and flavorful meat, which is served in tacos or tortas.
  2. Salbutes and Panuchos: These are typical Yucatan snacks. Salbutes are crispy fried corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken, red onion, avocado and salsa. Panuchos are corn tortillas filled with refried beans and then fried, topped with pork, red onion, avocado, and salsa.

These are just a few examples of the rich and varied regional Yucatecan food. Yucatan cuisine stands out for its mix of flavors, fresh ingredients and ancestral culinary techniques. If you get the chance to try it, you will immerse yourself in a unique culinary experience full of authentic and delicious flavors.

Cenote

Visiting a cenote in the Yucatan is a truly unique and captivating experience. The cenotes are natural freshwater wells that form in the limestone soil of the region, and offer a series of sensations and emotions that connect you with the beauty of nature and the history of the area.

On this excursion to Chichen Itza by Mayan train, just let yourself be amazed by this natural beauty.

Cenotes are considered sacred by the Mayans, and by visiting one, you will feel a special connection to the nature and history of the region. The serenity of the environment and the feeling of being surrounded by a unique ecosystem will allow you to appreciate the harmony and beauty of nature in its purest state.

Return to your hotel

After having made the entire journey between Chichen Itza, the cenote and the buffet lunch, it will be time to board the Mayan train that will take you back to the terminal of your city of origin (either Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum) where a van will take you back to the doors of your hotel
