Chichen Itza Tour from Cozumel

Technically Chichen Itza is not in the Riviera Maya, rather it's in the state of Yucatan between Playa del Carmen and Merida. It's a fabulous tour, a very long day, but very worth it

Meeting Point

Chichen Itza Tours from Riviera MayaIf you are staying in Cozumel we have an option for you that would require you to wake up a little bit earlier and cross over to Playa del Carmen at the 06:50 am ferry, in order to be in Playa del Carmen at 07:50 am. Our meeting point It is just a 5-minute walk from the pier outside Plaza Antigua, where someone will be waiting for you to take you to the waiting transportation

During your search to explore the beauty of the Riviera Maya / Cozumel, one of the best options is this excursion to Chichen Itza

Here is short a video, so you can have a better idea

It is important that when you finish watching the video, comeback here to check the details of the excursion

You can pay the day of the excursion

Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza was once one of the largest mayan cities. Chichen Itza was inhabited for nearly 1000 years before its decline. The name Chichen Itza means "At the mouth of the well of Itzaes". This site is one of the most visited in all of Mexico

The Kukulcan pyramid was recently named one of the 7 wonders of the world. After visiting you will certainly be able to see why. There is one thing to see the pyramid in photos, but quite another to see it in person. I highly recommend this excursion, the memories will last a lifetime

Transportation will be provided, and waiting for you. The trip to Chichen Itza will take us approximately 3 hours depending on how many pickups are necessary. We have knowledge of the area, and will try to make it as quick and practical as possible

Our guides are here to enhance your experience and provide information and history of the area. Take advantage of their knowledge. Feel free to ask all the questions you have

Chichen Itza Tours from Riviera MayaI can't express how much fun you will have during this excursion to chichen itza from Cozumel not only in terms of history and knowledge of our guides, but the awesome things you will see, you will be able to experience applauding in front of the pyramid to hear the great acoustics. Guides will explain the hieroglyphs on the stones of the ball court and show you where / how humans sacrifices were performed

I would have neve known that the Kukulcan pyramid was built according to the cycles of the planets and the moon, or even that the number of steps on the pyramid had any importance without the information provided by the knowledgeable guide

Entrance fee and taxes to Chichen Itza are included on the price

Cenote

After a day in the sun visiting Chichen Itza we will have the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful cenotes in the region. Entrances fees into the cenote are included in this excursion. Swimming in a cenote in Mexico is a once in a lifetime experience. The cenote is beautiful and the water is extremely refreshing. We will stop here for about an hour to relax and cool off. This area is full o natural beauty and will be an impressive experience

Some advice, the water is cold, nothing like the warm waters of the ocean. There is a depth of approximately 150 feet. This is a freshwater cenote, so you will be constantly treading water while in the cenote. If you are not a great swimmer, there are lifejackets rentals available (lifejackets are mandatory). Depending on the season the area can get crowded especially on the platform and stairs

The water is refreshing. Lots of fun. A must visit place.

Buffet meal

Chichen Itza Tours from Riviera MayaThis Chichen Itza tour from Cozumel, includes a regional style food. The food here is delicious, there are many selections provided in this buffet (pork, chicken, rice etc.) the price of the buffet is included in the price of your tour to chichen itza from Cozumel but does not include drinks (including water)

It's worth it

This is a whole day trip approximately 12-13 hours long, but it's fascinating. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in history and learning about the mayan culture

If you have had a chance to explore other archeological sites without a guide you will realize that having a knowledgeable guide is really the best option. You will enjoy hearing the history and traditions of the mayan people who live here. To see the incredible ruins that were built thousands of years ago, that have stood the test of time and still stand for us to enjoy

This is truly one of the 7 wonders of the world, and a tribute to mayan creativity and ingenuity. An experience not to be missed!. In addition to swimming in the cenote after a long and hot day, is a nice and refreshing way to conclude this tour to chichen itza from Cozumel

You will spend the same hours at the same places, only backwards. This decision is based on operation purposes, logistics, comfort and the places to visit.

"We did it as an all day trip from Cozumel spending 2 hours there. It is a must visit site for anyone who has an interest in pre-Colombian America."

"Visited the ruins for about 2 hours during our excursion from Cozumel. It was a lengthy journey, 35 minutes ferry to Playa del Carmen, then 2 hour bus ride. However it was totally worth it! Having a very knowledgeable guide to prepare everyone on the trip out there also helped quite a bit."

"Our family of four adults ferry'd over from Cozumel for a day off from diving to explore Mayan culture. We couldn't have picked a better guide Jorge, his driver Javier was fantastic as well. They picked us up at the Playa ferry terminal by Senior Frogs, we picked up a few more folks nearby and off to Chichen. From the coast it is close to a 2 hour drive. Most folks slept as it was an early morning for us all. bring a hat, sunscreen and something to cover up with. Even the folks going for a tan were cooking after 1/2 an hour. You walk alot so comfortable shoes (no spike heels, all grass). Also super important, Our guide got a chance to show us the pyramid in the beautiful sun, take lots of pictures and explain the amazing, brilliant Mayan culture, math and calendars to us with almost no one else there. We enjoyed the sports field, and the other temples nearby. Then, just as we were taking final pictures and leaving, a mass of buses pulled up, tons of people, all with brightly colored tour unbrellas sure to ruin any great photo, were upon us. TIME TO LEAVE! but we enjoyed every moment"

"a coach from Playa de Carmen to visit Chichen Itza, which approximately took two hours to reach this site. Please keep atleast 90 minutes to 120 minutes to appreciate this beautiful site. Our guide was very efficient and has booked the tickets for us in advance and has given a good sense of this historical site during our journey to this place. We visited this place in August and please be prepared to explore this site in scorching sun. The main attraction of this site is the Mayan Pyramid -temple of kukulkan. Apart from this magnificent structure, there are temple of warriors, the ball game court , the thousand pillar market etc. Some of the ancient sites are still being restored to ancient glory."

"Chichen Itza is an amazing place. I have been to many ancient sites in Mexico and Central America, and Chichen Itza is one of the most unique and awe inspiring. El Castillo, the iconic step pyramid that comes to mind when most people think of Chichen Itza is an ancient wonder and a monument to how truly intelligent the ancient Maya were. The pyramid acted as a type of calendar much like Stonehenge. It has four sides each with 91 steps. If you count the the roof of the temple atop the pyramid as a final or last step, 91+91+91+91+1=365, obviously the number of days in the year. On the north side of the pyramid, there are large serpent heads on each side of the stairway. During the spring and fall equinoxes, the shadows from the pyramid steps descend down the sides of the stairway to the serpents' heads making it look as if there is a live undulating snake. Another curiosity about the pyramid is that if you stand in front of any of the staircases and clap, the echo comes back as a squawking sound much like a bird. The pyramid was built to honor the Mayan god, Kukulkan, the feathered serpent god who was related or connected to the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl. The squawking echo almost certainly was purposefully designed to honor the feathered serpent. El Castillo is just one of the wonders that Chichen Itza holds. There is also a large ball court and a astronomical observatory that are well worth seeing. The archaeological site itself is quite large and you will probably need at least three hours if you want to see everything. The site is also very popular, so if you want to beat the crowds, you should show up early. If you are at all interested in Mayan history and culture, I would strongly recommend hiring a private guide, it is well worth it. Also, take some money to buy souvenirs and food. There are a lot vendors selling t-shirts, sculptures, masks, and many other trinkets as well as a restaurant on site. If you buy a souvenir, don't be afraid to bargain-never pay the asking price, the vendors will always come down if you bargain with them. Unfortunately, because of vandalism and safety issues, you can no longer climb the pyramid, a huge disappointment for me. Still, all in all, Chichen Itza is a must see if you are visiting Cancan or Cozumel. You will not be sorry you visited this ancient site."

"I have been wanting to visit Chichen Itza for many years. Our cruise ship stopped in Cozumel for the day. We were going to fly to Chichen Itza but they planes were not flying. So we took the long bus ride. I know it was long and you only get 1.5hr at the site, but what a experience. The sheer scale of the buildings can only be experienced first hand. Think new world Egypt. The craftsman ship is outstanding. I was ah struck. Best 6 hour commute for 1.5 hours of amazing ever."

"This is a must-visit place if you are into historical and unique places. Our guides were great, both had excellent knowledge of Maya culture and history, and were able to communicate this in an interesting way. The buildings are full of details, and to know the story behind some of the details makes the visit special. I would not visit on my own without knowing a bit of history and what it is you get to see. Know that it is hot and humid there, so dress accordingly. Ours was a full-day trip with a long boat and busride from Cozumel, but worth it even if we just had two hours at the site. Note that you have to pay a fee to use a go-pro camera, but not to film using your photo or mobile camera."
